Central St Martins is scheduled to leave it’s current home in the Lethaby building in 2011. The building has been a purpose built art school since 1908. This website has been created for a brief that asked to ‘create a memorable piece of design to celebrate The Lethaby and its history.’
I want you, as an affiliate of the Lethaby building, to browse the selection of photographs I have taken out of the windows. Maybe you will find the window in front of you right now, or perhaps your favourite spot in the building, or even a view you have never seen before. But most of all I want you to share that window. You can use the link on the window’s page to create and send a postcard [small charge sorry]; please send it to your mother/father/lover/friend/family/etc.
The Lethaby building is nothing without its students and staff. This project aims to preserve some of the essence of its use as messages from the building’s occupants. Perspectives from those inside looking out. Knowing CSM, the postcards can go worldwide and be stuck to fridges, lost in drawers, or stuffed in books. In this way people will know in years to come how the Lethaby really was, when it was doing the job it was designed and built for.
